About Citrus

Located on the west coast of Central Florida, 70 miles north of Tampa and 60 miles northwest of Orlando, Citrus County is often called "Mother Nature's Theme Park" - and for good reason.  Here in this lush landscape of gently rolling hills, sparkling lakes and rivers, stately century old moss-laden oaks and majestic pines and palm trees, is where man and nature live and play in harmony.   Bordered by water on three sides, Citrus County is home to seven Florida Outstanding Water bodies, boasting 106 miles of spring-fed rivers, 19,111 acres of lakes, crystal clear springs, and a 52 mile stretch of the Gulf coast as its playground. No matter what water activity you seek, from fantastic fresh or salt water fishing, boating, and kayaking, to swimming, diving or snorkeling with manatees and dolphins, or just laying on a sandy beach soaking up the Florida sunshine, Citrus County has the perfect location for you.

So pristine is much of the county that more than 152,000 acres out of Citrus County's 683 square miles have been acquired through local, state and federal funds and set aside to protect it from excessive development to preserve wildlife.  This provides for a myriad of outdoor activities from hiking and jogging, to bird watching, horseback riding, camping and more.  The cities, towns and communities within Citrus County have set aside greenbelt areas, parks, recreational areas and preserves offering tennis, horseshoes, skateboarding, and a host of activities.  Extensive clubs, civic groups and religious organizations offer even more recreational opportunities, both indoors and out, for seniors and families alike.

For the golfer, Citrus County is home to nearly a dozen golf courses, including the nationally acclaimed Black Diamond Ranch and El Diablo golf and country clubs.  For the casual as well as the serious golfer, the golf courses of Citrus County offer a variety of challenging designs and elevations in breathtakingly beautiful and natural settings that can be enjoyed year round, as Citrus County enjoys an average temperature of 72 degrees.

Citrus County is a harmonious blend of old and new, planned growth and quaint charm.  From the old Inverness Courthouse, which appeared in Elvis Presley's movie "Follow that Dream", the remains of the Yulee plantation, the ancient Indian burial mounds and the historic shopping areas, to it's modern Hospitals, state-of-the-art assisted living and nursing facilities, the modern shopping malls, museums, libraries and extensive educational facilities, it is a place where people still stop to smell the flowers, or wave hello to a passerby.  It is a County whose heart is as warm as the sunshine.  You have to experience Citrus County to understand all that it is ... and all that it can offer you, your family, your business. Take a minute to enjoy the above slideshow  ... and see what you can be enjoying every minute here in Citrus County.

Citrus County is a high performing school district that consistently ranks near the top on state measures of testing and accountability. In fact, the state of Florida ranked Citrus County as an "A" district for the 2005-2006 school year. We have been successful in raising student achievement and shall continue to work daily to ensure constant, consecutive gains and successes.

I have the privilege of leading an extremely talented and dedicated group of administrators, instructors, support staff and students whose main priority is achieving the best educational opportunities and environment possible in our schools. The community can depend on us to achieve this goal. Every student matters. Every family counts. We shall continue to do our best for each and every one.
